How to get started

First thing you need is a provisional licence. You can apply for your provisional aged 15 years and 9 months. Some people might like to do this to drive a tractor.  Also you can book your test for your 17th birthday when you apply for it early. (only joking who wants to sit a test on their birthday) This costs £34 online or £43 and you can get an application form from the post office.

On your first lesson you will need to produce your provisional licence and I will check your eye sight meets the required standard by reading a No. plate from a distance of 20.5 metres (67 feet). If you cannot read the No. plate will I recommended you see an optician .

Theory Test

The theory test currently costs £23.00 and is conducted at the test centre located across from the Linkwood Medial centre in New Elgin. As from September the theory test will be 147 high street Elgin. The theory test can be booked on the Direct   gov.com website, by telephone or through a form from the post office. You can do this as soon as you receive your provisional licence or during any time before your practical test. The theory must be passed first before applying for the practical test. On passing the theory test the certificate lasts up to two year from the passed date.

The theory is split into 2 parts, 50 multiple choice questions and case study questions and a hazard perception test. The first part is the multiple choice questions where you must answer 43 out of 50 questions. Candidates with special needs can apply for extra time, sign language or other language voice over if required.

The hazard perception test consists of 14 video clips. You are identifying 15 developing hazards by clicking the mouse. You are scored from 5 points to 0 depending on how quickly you identify the hazard. (Watch as too many clicks continually will be disqualified)

You must pass both parts of the test to pass and you will be told at the end of the test.

If you fail you have to sit both parts of the test again.

When you book the test you will be email an confirmation which will state all the current requirements for Covid.
